How to Measure for the PRISM, PALM and RUBY One-Shoulder Dresses

One-shoulder styles sit differently on the body to a standard dress, which means they need a measurement that's specific to how they're designed to fit. Rather than a bust or chest measurement, these pieces are fitted using a diagonal neckline measurement -  one that follows the path the garment actually takes across your body. Getting this right means the dress will sit exactly as it should.

You'll need a flexible tape measure, and it helps to have someone to assist - but it can be done on your own with a little patience. If you're planning to wear a strapless bra with the dress, it's worth taking this measurement while wearing it. The neckline starts at the underarm, so doing this will help you judge whether your bra will sit fully under the fabric - some people are happy with a little showing at the side, others prefer it completely hidden. Either is fine - it's entirely your call.

Please see the video below for a clear visual explanation and step by step.

Step 1: Find your starting point

Place the end of the tape measure under your right arm, at the point where you'd like the dress to sit.

Step 2: Bring the tape diagonally across your chest

Draw the tape across your body at a diagonal, moving from under your right are, then upwards and left  toward your left shoulder. Keep the tape flat against your body without pulling it too tight.

Step 3: Up and over your left shoulder

Continue bringing the tape up and over your left shoulder, following the natural curve of your body.

Step 4: Back down to where you started

Bring the tape back down, returning to the point under your right arm where you began. Note the full measurement where the tape meets itself - this is your neckline measurement.
